Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
(Format used for this read: Print–hardback)
Finished this last night…this was our pick for Book Club this month.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of this one. 😬
I am probably in the minority in the book fan world but it’s true.
I thought it was going to be sooo good…but was a tad disappointed.
Here is a quoted summary of the book:
“Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.”
It takes place in the swamps of North Carolina and the authors narrative descriptions of nature are actually very breathtaking.
It follows the story of a young girl nicknamed the “Marsh Girl” who is abandoned and has to quickly figure life out on her own.
All kinds of emotions are involved in reading this book (love, abandonment, heartbreak, jealousy, anger, frustration, loneliness to name a few) which usually I love….but this time I didn’t.
There are a few too many cliches in the book which bothered me and I found problematic.
I do think the author is a fantastic writer and you do feel pulled into the story…but again…just wasn’t something I enjoyed much.
My overall review of this book:
A solid “meh.”
