The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
(Format used for this read: Audiobook)
I was completely captivated by this book the last couple days…
I mean this story had me ALLLL KINDS of drawn in.
My sister in law recommended it to me after I read the book “Daisy Jones and The Six”, also by this author…that one also had me soaked into the story almost obsessively.
Here is the summary:
“From the author of Daisy Jones & The Six—an entrancing novel “that speaks to the Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor in us all” (Kirkus Reviews), in which a legendary film actress reflects on her relentless rise to the top and the risks she took, the loves she lost, and the long-held secrets the public could never imagine.
Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?
Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.
Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story near its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways”
I legit can not go into to many details about the plots of this book (and yes I say plots because there are MANY) because I do not want to spoil one little second of you becoming engrossed in this story like I did.
What I can tell you is that this story is about love and the millions of ways we all experience it and express it.
The wonder…
the pain…
the mystery…
the excitement…
the grief…
the joy.
Whether it’s love for a partner, a best friend, a child, a parent our just humanity as a whole…this book dives deep into it all.
(Plus there is all the chaos of what it is like to rise to stardom in old Hollywood mixed in…and y’all know I love some movie star sparkle 🤣)
My heart literally ached when I read certain parts…
I wanted to throw things across the room in anger on other parts…
and I danced in celebration in my kitchen on others.
Such a good book y’all.
Just so DAMN GOOD.
They MUST make a movie based on this book…they just MUST.
