The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave

(Format for this read: Audiobook)

Before Owen Michaels disappears, he smuggles a note to his beloved wife of one year: Protect her. Despite her confusion and fear, Hannah Hall knows exactly to whom the note refers—Owen’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Bailey. Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child. Bailey, who wants absolutely nothing to do with her new stepmother.

As Hannah’s increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered, as the FBI arrests Owen’s boss, as a US marshal and federal agents arrive at her Sausalito home unannounced, Hannah quickly realizes her husband isn’t who he said he was. And that Bailey just may hold the key to figuring out Owen’s true identity—and why he really disappeared.

Hannah and Bailey set out to discover the truth. But as they start putting together the pieces of Owen’s past, they soon realize they’re also building a new future—one neither of them could have anticipated.

With its breakneck pacing, dizzying plot twists, and evocative family drama, The Last Thing He Told Me is a riveting mystery, certain to shock you with its final, heartbreaking turn.

YALLLLLLLLLLL.

Another dang crappy thriller book for my book club pick of the month…..WHHHYYYYYY?????

Truth be told I LOVED our last pick–Nightbitch—and legit was the ONLY EFFIN’ ONE in our group who did 🤣

It was weird and dark and deep and was FULL of metaphors about being a parent and a woman and societal expectations…..SO DANG GOOD.

IDGAF if nobody else thought so….I FRIGGIN LOVED IT.

(Plus…it wasn’t a generic thriller, so it had THAT going for it)

This book????

No ma’am and no sir.

Typical standard thriller books are just NOT my cup of tea or glass of wine.

Most of the peeps in my book club really enjoy them….which is why I have had to read so many of them in the past year LOL

And I’m pretty sure MOST of them will enjoy this one.

But IDK maybe not…this book sucked on a level that even those who enjoy this type of literary indulgence may not have their usual level of satisfactory entertainment from it.

I’m not hating on peeps for liking what they like….I am not gonna yuck their literary yum….but it just ain’t for me, my dears.

This story was absolutely boring and typical and I did a LOT of daydreaming and thought drifting while listening to it.

Halfway thru I didn’t even know if I COULD finish because I just DID NOT CARE TWO FLIPS about the story or the characters or the plot or ANY EFFING THING.

But PERSISTENCE is a quality I do possess LOL

In my humble opinion, this book was nothing special, nothing interesting and nothing intriguing.

Period. Dot. End of sentence.

Also…I did NOT love the narrators voice from the get go, so that did not help at ALL.

Again….nothing special, nothing interesting.

But I guess she is just reading what she was given so not her fault at all.

One word description of this book: Lame.

Also…I apologize my fellow book worms for having SO MANY reviews lately where I don’t have much to say except negative things.

But…that’s how the page turns sometimes, isn’t it????

LORDT.

Moving on with the SWIFTNESS to the next….

  1. I didn’t like this one either. I felt the author wrote herself into a corner and then just decided to end the book.
