The Cavendon Luck by Barbara Taylor Bradford

(Format used for this read: Print–hardback)

It is 1938 in England, and Miles and Cecily Ingham have lead the family in bringing the Cavendon estate back from the brink of disaster. But now, with the arrival of World War II, Cavendon Hall will face its biggest challenge yet. It is a challenge that will push the Inghams and Swanns to protect each other and the villagers, and reveal their true capacity for survival and rebirth.

Told with Bradford’s deft, evocative prose and featuring a beloved cast of characters, The Cavendon Luck is a story of intrigue, romance, sorrow, and joy that readers won’t soon forget.

This is the 3rd book in the Cavendon Hall series (what I like to think of as “Downton Abbey reimagined”)

And true confession: I have been reading this book since the end of February, yall. 🤦‍♀️

I slowly read my way thru it just like I did the 2nd one in the series.

It’s not like the story is slow and that nothing happens…there is QUITE a bit of major drama, big secrets, horrific events, monumental heartbreak and elaborate celebration that occurs to keep you interested and invested.

IDK…it just feels like these books are written in a way to allow you to just leisurely meander thru the pages…not voraciously consume in large does (as I tend to do with MANY other books!)

This series is a PERFECT “just before bed” read…you won’t really be tempted to stay up to read “just one more chapter” and it won’t eff with your mind to give you deep, anxious thoughts that keep you up at night.

I think these books would be completely lovely for a summer vacay companion…perfect fit for lounging by the pool or riding in an airplane.

I loved the first book…felt just “ok” about the second…and this one I feel like is somewhere in the middle.

I’ll call this a very PLEASANT read.

(even though yes, bad shit DOES happen and you WILL cry some tears)

It’s very BRITISH. 🤣

Such BBC Masterpiece Theater vibes.

Which DUH it should be because the author is British and the stories MOSTLY take place there as well.

But listen…

I’m here for it, as per usual. I LOVE THAT MESS, YALL!

This book takes place right before WWII starts then finishes with the end of the war years later.

Even though it’s wartime, the Inghams still find a way to be aristocrats and fancy and well…JUST BE THE INGHAMS.

There is plenty of glamour mixed in with plenty of problems….

I swear I can not think of ANY other perfect adjective to describe these books other than the word “Downton Abbey.”

Yall probably sick of hearing me describe them that way but I can not even help it!

It just is SO the perfect comparison!

Here is my advice to you fellow bookworms:

If you also love you some Abbey and British aristocracy fiction, then these books are a PERFECT fit for a laid back read for you.💗

If that ain’t your thing, don’t even waste your time because you will NOT be thrilled. 😆

There is one more book in this series that I am starting immediately….

I doubt I will finish before the start of summer.🤣

Don’t worry though….yall know I got my audiobooks on double speed so I’ll probably have like five reviews on other books for you to read before that one 😆
