(Format used for this read: Print–hardback)
This is unlike any other book review I have ever done before….
And this truly is unlike any other book I have ever READ before.
Yall this is not just a book…it is a glorious work of art, a story told thru gorgeous hand drawn images and deep, heart felt handwritten words.
I find it hard to put this book into any type of category really….it is ageless and timeless and I feel will speak differently to each person who picks it up.
Here is an official description:
“The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse is not only a thought-provoking, discussion-worthy story, the book itself is an object of art.”– The New York Times
From the revered British illustrator, a modern fable for all ages that explores life’s universal lessons, featuring 100 color and black-and-white drawings.
Charlie Mackesy offers inspiration and hope in uncertain times in this beautiful book based on his famous quartet of characters. The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse explores their unlikely friendship and the poignant, universal lessons they learn together.
Radiant with Mackesy’s warmth and gentle wit, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse blends hand-written narrative with dozens of drawings, including some of his best-loved illustrations (including “Help,” which has been shared over one million times) and new, never-before-seen material. A modern classic in the vein of The Tao of Pooh, The Alchemist, and The Giving Tree, this charmingly designed keepsake will be treasured for generations to come.”
This book absolutely reminded me of two of my childhood favorites….Winnie the Pooh and The Giving Tree.
Such strong, emotion filled life lessons on every single page.
You can literally feel the thoughtful love the author/illustrator just poured into these pages thru his hands.
My sweet and precious friend Megan sent me this book thru the mail in the beginning of this quarantine life….and I just now decided it was time to sit down, curl up on my couch and take my time journeying thru the pages.
She knew I would need these words and these lessons to hold in my hands at some point during this stress filled time of unknowns.
She was so right.
I know my boys will enjoy going thru them just as much.
And now I want to gift this book to EVERY PERSON I KNOW!
For the rest of this review, instead of sharing my thoughts in words like I usually do, I am going to share with you the pages that really pulled at my heartstrings the most as I read.
The author intends for the message of this book to be unique for each person who reads it…special yet connected to each other…what a beautiful and impactful message that is.
