Matched by Ally Condie

(Format of this read: Audiobook)

When chatting with a friend one day and telling her one of my guilty pleasures is YA book series, she recommended this to me.

Dystopian society + romance + rebellion

That is all she had to say to get me.

Here is a super short summary:

“In the Society, Officials decide. Who you love. Where you work. When you die.
Cassia has always trusted the Society’s choices. And when her best friend appears on the Matching screen, she is certain he’s the one—until she sees another face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black. Now she is faced with impossible choices: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she’s ever known and a path no has dared to follow . . . between perfection and the truth.”

Okay I will say I did not think the writing was all that great…plot was a bit choppy here and there…and some was a tad predictable.

(Coming of age and realizing you don’t like the government telling you how to live every detail of your life??? Not exactly shocking)

BUT…

It did suck me in.

What can I say…as much as I love books that make my brain hurt and flip my world upside down…I also love books that are just escapes from reality.

There are plenty of things to think about don’t get me wrong…

things like how much control should government really have on your choices, what makes a society healthy & functioning…

it was just things I have thought about before while reading other books.

I did enjoy this story greatly though and am already on the library wait list for the second one in the series 😃

(My teen likes YA series too so we end up having some of the same reads…SERIOUSLY doubt he’d enjoy this one though because there is A LOT of teen romance which he as a 13 year old boy is NOT interested in 🤣)

If YA series about jacked up societies with a little falling in love mixed in is you’re kinda thing too…DEFINITELY check this one out!
