I’m Judging You: The Do-Better Manual by Luvvie Ajayi

(Format used for this book: Audiobook)

“With over 500,000 readers a month at her enormously popular blog, AwesomelyLuvvie.com, Luvvie Ajayi is a go-to source for smart takes on pop culture. I’m Judging You is her debut book of humorous essays that dissects our cultural obsessions and calls out bad behavior in our increasingly digital, connected lives. It passes on lessons and side-eyes on life, social media, culture, and fame, from addressing those terrible friends we all have to serious discussions of race and media representation to what to do about your fool cousin sharing casket pictures from Grandma’s wake on Facebook.

With a lighthearted, razor sharp wit and a unique perspective, I’m Judging You is the handbook the world needs, doling out the hard truths and a road map for bringing some “act right” into our lives, social media, and popular culture. It is the Do-Better Manual.”

Look at me doing the official summary of the book before I say one dang word myself!

You know why I changed things up, fellow bookworms?

Because I know lots of yall just scroll RIGHT ON PAST my little wordy intros on my posts and wanna get STRAIGHT TO THE POINT….yall wanna know what the hell the book is even about first before you even give two cares about my thoughts on it.

Ok…ok….I hear yall!

Shout out to my real and HONEST friends who tell me like it is 24/7 and have admitted they do this on EVERY SINGLE ONE OF MY POSTS.

I mean…I’m giving you a SLIGHT side eye because yall kinda rude…but it is an APPRECIATIVE slight side eye because I do value authenticity and realness.πŸ˜†

Anywho….

This book was SO DAMN GOOD, YALL. πŸ”₯

I have followed Luvvie on social media for awhile now and I have zero clues why it took me so long to read this book!

But thank goodness I finally got some sense together and did…because it was FANTASTIC.

I enjoy books like this that are in essay format. Even though the essays are not linear, they ARE all interconnected.

She goes into alllllllll kinds of things in these pages, leaving no topic undiscussed and no person unaddressed.

“We are the WORST….and I’m judging us ALL.”

She does it with just the exact right amount tea spilling and shade throwing….complete *chef’s kiss* petty perfection.

I was literally cracking up out loud at her petty commentary on things like dinner Scrooges, bad baes, people who don’t wash their jeans, and hashtag abuse.

I’m not just SAYING I LOL’d….I legit DID, yall. πŸ˜†

She is fucking hilarious!

She is also wicked smart, brilliantly insightful and wisdom filled.

Luvvie Ajayi won’t only make you laugh hard…she will also make you THINK hard.

In her essays, she also addresses things like Eurocentric beauty standards, body shaming, racism, privilege, rape culture and patriarchy.

And ohhhhh does she get INTO IT about her faith and what “good Christians” do to damage the church as a whole.

I am here for ALLLL the calling out she does on ALLLL the things.

HERE πŸ‘FORπŸ‘ITπŸ‘

“This is an extra layer of bullshit on the get the fuck outta here lasagna.”

“What Columbus needed was a compass and a clue.”

“You know what makes no sense? A bunch of penises making choices for vaginas. That’s like interviewing a turtle on the struggles of being a dolphin.”

“Who needs soap operas now when we have social media timelines?”

She has a way of speaking truth into very important issues that directly calls out, confronts, and collects…yet also instructs and advises.

While reading, you will learn a lot, be convicted of a lot, and you will also LAUGH a lot.

Which may seem contradictory…but I promise you, it all WORKS.

She is phenomenal.

Highly recommend.
