Figment by Jim Zub & Filipe Andrade

The next great Disney adventure is here – starring one of Disney’s most popular characters!

Dive into a steampunk fantasy story revealing the origin of the inventor known as Dreamfinder, and learn how one little spark of inspiration created a purple dragon called Figment.

Our daring duo explore the realms of imagination, finding friends and foes alike – while back on Earth, a clockwork army assembles under the command of the frightening force known only as the Singular. And when Clockwork Control invades London while the intrepid explorers are trapped within the Nightmare Nation, the only obstacles standing between the Singular and total domination are Dreamfinder, Figment and their newfound friends!

Acclaimed and uniquely talented creators Jim Zub (Skullkickers) and Filipe Andrade (Captain Marvel) give a Marvel spin to Epcot’s mind-bending attraction, Journey into Imagination!

This review is gonna be pretty different than all my other ones.

Yes, this is a comic book.

Yes, I believe this counts as a book read.

No, I am not going to argue with anyone about that.

This is my blog and my thoughts so if you don’t agree or like it, you can move right along. 🤷‍♀️

Anyway.

I am a HUGE Disney fan, yall. Moving to Florida a year and a half ago and only being an hour away from Disneyworld is like a friggin’ DREAM COME TRUE to me!

One of my FAVORITE Disney characters EVERRRRR is Figment, who you can find in Epcot in the Journey Into Imagination ride.

The first time I went to Disney as a little kid, I remember riding that ride in pure fascination and awe.

I have always been a creative person with a BIG imagination, and 6 year old me just felt so VALIDATED and swept away on that ride.

And even though it’s changed a little since 1986 and I’ve ridden it multiple times since, I still get those SAME feels every single time I enter that space.

My youngest kiddo also LOVES Figment and it makes me JOYOUS to share that fandom with him.

Which is how I came across this comic book to begin with.

Kiddo comes home from school wanting to create a “book character” pumpkin for his school library event.

He had his heart SET on making a Figment pumpkin, so we hit up Google to see if there were any books about our fave purple dragon written over the years.

He can often be an overlooked Disney character and his merch can be HELLA lacking compared to other “heavy hitters” like Mickey and his crew or all the princesses. (give us MORE FIGMENT, Disney! Yall should have learned that people will go CRAZY for it when whole popcorn bucket incident went down)

WE WERE PUMPED when we discovered not just THIS comic book, but FIVE in a whole SERIES!

How I did not know about this before is BEYOND me!! But SO EXCITING to know this now!

We both read this and both loved hearing Figment’s origin story, as well as the Dreamfinder’s. (who sadly is no longer part of the ride…BRING HIM BACK!)

The artwork was FANTASTIC as well. Totes feeling the whole steampunk vibe.

Everything was magical and exciting and out there. Figment and Marvel…the combo I never knew I needed!

Finding the rest of the comics in this series without spending an arm and a leg is gonna be quite the treasure hunt, but I’m up for the challenge for sure.

This comic is a DEFINITE MUST for Figment fans out there, and I would say a HIGHLY RECOMMEND for Disney (or just Epcot) fans.

It is just so much fun!

Even if you’re not into comic books regularly (like ME), you will have a blast with this one…promise!

If you’re not into Figment or Disney or comics, you really have no need to check this out. The wonder of it all will be completely WASTED on you😆
