Fairest by Marissa Meyer

(Format used for this read: Audiobook)

This book in the Lunar chronicles is a prequel to the series…kinda like a bonus book, not super vital to the main storyline.

(If you want to know about the other books before this in this series I have reviewed, you can read about them here:

“Cinder” https://brainglitterwithdani.com/cinder/

“Scarlet” https://brainglitterwithdani.com/scarlet/

“Cress” https://brainglitterwithdani.com/cress/ )

This book is all about the past of the evil queen, Levana.

It was suggested on a fan site to read this before the very last book. (Yes I totally looked at a fan site because that’s how much I ❤️ these books 🤣)

Here is a super short summary:

“Mirror, mirror, on the wall.
Who is the Fairest of them all?

Pure evil has a name, hides behind a mask of deceit, and uses her “glamour” to gain power. But who is Queen Levana? Long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress in The Lunar Chronicles, Levana lived a very different story―a story that has never been told . . . until now.

New York Times–bestselling author Marissa Meyer reveals the story behind her fascinating villain in Fairest, an unforgettable tale about love and war, deceit and death.”

This book wasn’t very long but it sure was packed with some crazy y’all.

The most interesting thing to me was it really dug deep into the idea of why a person is “evil”.

Nature vs nurture idea…

Is a person born with certain tendencies or are those tendencies created due to the circumstances they develop in after their birth?

I have no idea. I honestly don’t think there is an easy answer for that.

But I did find myself feeling pity for Levana while at the same time feeling enraged by her.

Very interesting story.

Now I’m all prepared for the very last book in the series….
