Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan
(Format used for this read: Print–paperback–from library)
This book was MUCH more fun to read than the Hamilton book 🤣
Here is a summary:
When New Yorker Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home and quality time with the man she hopes to marry.
But Nick has failed to give his girlfriend a few key details. One, that his childhood home looks like a palace; two, that he grew up riding in more private planes than cars; and three, that he just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor.
On Nicks arm, Rachel may as well have a target on her back the second she steps off the plane, and soon her relaxed vacation turns into an obstacle course of old money, new money, nosy relatives, and scheming social climbers.”
I’m way behind the times just now reading this book 🤣
Not only was it a sensational, “soap opera”ish story that entertained me immensely, but the author included TONS of footnotes explaining various aspects of certain Asian cultures that he mentions in his writing so it was educational for me as well.
Entertainment + education is always a winning equation for me! 😃
The author used his privileged childhood growing up in Singapore as a reference for this book….
it made me wonder what outlandish things he described (like elaborate houses, over the top fancy parties) were things he actually experienced!
I am excited to watch this movie to see these fabulous characters come to life.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and think it’s the perfect summer read!
