Cinder by Marissa Meyer
(Format used for this read: Audiobook)
Young adult fiction is a guilty pleasure of mine 😬
A few friends recommended The Lunar Chronicles series so I checked out Book One.
Here is the summary:
“Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .
Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.
With high-stakes action and a smart, resourceful heroine, Cinder is a Cinderella retelling that is at once classic and strikingly original.”
I totally figured out the ENTIRE entire plot line after just a few chapters so I was eye rolling a bit….but I hardly EVER quit a book so I figured I would finish it out anyway.
Even though my plot predictions were 100 percent correct I have to admit…I ended up enjoying the book for the most part.
It was a creative and interesting twist on a classic fairy tale set in the future.
Even though I knew what was going to play out pages before it did, I still wanted to keep going.
I was captivated anyway.
(I mean it IS written for young adults so I have to remember that I am not the target audience here 🤣)
All in all it was a fun, quick escapist read for me.
I probably will check out the other books in the series at a future date…but now it’s time for something a bit more “meaty”.
